Electric Umbrella Workshop

On Tuesday 24th February, we were delighted to welcome back the charity Electric Umbrella for a day of music and performance designed to challenge perceptions and celebrate the unique gifts of every individual. This visit was a vital part of our commitment to dignity for all, providing our Year 9 puppils with a powerful platform to explore our core values of kindness, empathy, and compassion. During Period 2, all Year 9 pupils participated in an interactive session focused on building a culture of inclusion and community. This session encouraged pupils to think deeply about diversity and mutual respect, whilst also educating them on protected characteristics and the impact of hate crime, fostering a supportive atmosphere rooted in tolerance and a shared responsibility to stand against discrimination.

The day continued throughout Periods 3 to 5, where selected smaller groups of pupils took part in specialised, hands-on workshops. These extended sessions allowed for deeper creative collaboration, providing a dedicated space for pupils to develop leadership and empathy skills through the medium of music. A significant part of these workshops involved thinking critically about how the world can and should be adapted for everyone, which included exploring and using accessible musical instruments. By working together, our pupils practised being inclusive and supportive of one another’s unique experiences and perspectives. We believe that these opportunities are essential in helping our pupils grow into empathetic and compassionate young people who value the dignity of every person they meet, and we are incredibly proud of the way Year 9 embraced the day's message.
