Maya secures prestigious church scholar post
A talented St Clement Danes pupil has taken a major step forward in her musical journey after securing a coveted vocal position within the local community. Maya, currently in Year 9, has successfully auditioned to become a Student Singing Scholar at St Peter’s Church in Mill End, Rickmansworth. The prestigious appointment is a significant milestone, operating as a professional singing engagement that requires Maya to rehearse and perform on a weekly basis.
For many in the school community, Maya’s latest achievement comes as no surprise. She first captured our attention during the annual Commememoration celebrations, where she performed a breathtaking duet of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Pie Jesu alongside a fellow Year 8 pupil. Since that standout performance, Maya has continued to be an indispensable asset to the school’s music department, where she is currently a highly valued member of both the Senior Choir and the elite Chamber Choir.
Maya’s musical prowess extends far beyond choral singing. Alongside her commitments at school and church, she is an avid pianist and a dedicated pupil at The Academy Watford, a local musical theatre school. Through the academy, Maya takes to the stage twice a year at the Radlett Centre. She has already built up an impressive theatrical resume, featuring in recent high-energy productions of We Will Rock You and Little Shop of Horrors.
Congratulations to Maya on this fantastic appointment. We look forward to hearing her voice continue to lift spirits both in school.
