European Day of Languages Assembly

This week we celebrated the European Day of Languages. Year 7 students took part in a Bake-Off competition and made a fabulous number of delicious cakes and biscuits with a European theme. We raised £130 from visitors’ voluntary donations at Open Day and will be donating most of the proceeds to one of the school’s charities. In assembly, Mrs Fern talked about the benefits of travel overseas for young people and described just a few of the many options available these days. Interrailing, au-pairing, working as a language assistant, a charity worker, a language teacher - the possibilities are many and varied. Although you can get by with English in many places, making the effort to speak a little of the local language will have a deep impact on the people you meet abroad. Quite a few of the teachers also seemed to enjoy re-living memories of travels past!
