Alex awarded prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship

Year 12 student Alex Poole has received a highly respected accolade on been awarded a scholarship with the Arkwright Engineering Scholarship Scheme. The scholarship is the most prestigious scholarship of its type in the UK to inspire and nurture school-age students to be the country’s future leaders of the Engineering Profession. Alex wins a £600 financial award on selection, and the school will also receive a £400 award.

Alex was supported during the process of his application by CEIAG Coordinator Mrs Payne and Specialist Leader of Education and Science Teacher Mrs Quinton.  Alex sat a two hour test under supervision at school during which he had to tackle tasks set by Arkwright Engineering. Alex also submitted a product that he designed as part of his NEA (Non examination assessment). Alex said, "I am very excited about the many opportunities that have now opened for me as a result of achieving the Arkwright scholarship. I hope that many more students from St Clement Danes will achieve the same for years to come."

The Scholarships are awarded to high-calibre 16-year old students through a rigorous selection process and support students through the two years of their A levels, Scottish Advanced Highers, or equivalent qualifications.

Every Scholarship is sponsored by a commercial company, trade association, university, professional institution, armed service, government organisation, worshipful company, charitable trust,or personal donor. This means that support is offered in various different ways, for example, valuable hands-on work experience, support for your curriculum project and a personal mentor who can help you with aspects of your studies and career planning. Alex will also receive support from a dedicated engineering mentor through his A level studies.

Well done Alex! The school community joins Headteacher Mr Sutherland, Mrs Quinton and Mrs Payne in offering our congratulations to you on this truly fantastic achievement!
