Year 12 CSI Careers Day – A Glimpse into the World of Crime and Investigation

Our Year 12 Psychology and Sociology students recently took part in an exciting CSI Careers Day, designed to give them a hands-on insight into careers within the police and forensic services.

The day began with fascinating talks from S.Sgt Elaine Colbeck and PCSO Niki Philips, who shared their experiences working in the police and outlined the wide range of roles available within the force. Students even had the opportunity to explore a real police van – a highlight for many!

We were also joined by Andrew Crocombe from Scientific Services – Joint Protective Services, representing Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Constabularies. He introduced students to the world of forensics, allowing them to try on SOCO (Scenes of Crime Officer) gear and have a go at dusting for fingerprints.

The day concluded with an exciting practical task: our classroom was transformed into a realistic crime scene, and students worked together to investigate the evidence and solve the mystery. It was a brilliant way to bring their learning to life and apply their skills in a fun, engaging environment.

The event received fantastic feedback from students. One student said:

“I am definitely going to look into the crime side of psychology more as I was really interested in it and could see myself enjoying doing it as a job.”

It was a thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring day for all involved. A huge thank you to our visiting speakers for sharing their time and expertise, and to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
