Governors Curriculum Statement
St. Clement Danes School seeks to provide its students with a high quality learning environment and is committed to maximising upon the abilities of each student within a broad and balanced curriculum, including National Curriculum for all students. Staff work to develop in each student a sense of enjoyment in the academic challenges they face, and strive to provide a programme of learning which is appropriate to the needs of the individual.
St. Clement Danes School aims to:
- Enable all students to progress and achieve their full potential within the curriculum through specialist teaching and on-going monitoring and assessment.
- Provide an active enrichment and extension policy for the more able and to provide learning support – either in-class or individually – for those who need it.
- Extend students’ Literacy and Numeracy skills through provision for small groups at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Provide differentiation through the number of Option Choices students are advised upon at the end of Year 9; some students are provided with the opportunity to extend the number of GCSEs they take, while others combine both GCSEs and further Literacy and Numeracy skills in a co-ordinated programme of study.
- Ensure that an enriching curriculum is provided through a variety of extra-curricular classes across subject areas.
- Provide a Lifeskills programme for the school which is both progressive and carefully organised, and encourages students to gain a wider awareness of personal, social, cultural, political and moral issues alongside specific skills. Cross-curricular provision is assured through the integration of citizenship, careers and European awareness.
- Monitor and review the curriculum with staff through meetings and INSET, and to introduce change to the curriculum as a result of internal discussions and response to external requirements.
- Keep parents and governors informed and involved in the curriculum and any changes to that curriculum through meetings, booklets and letters.
The school believes in an holistic approach to education, providing students not only with an academic framework, but one which seeks to broaden their artistic, sporting and cultural awareness. The Curriculum Model for each year group, together with the School Development and Departmental Development Plans demonstrate the implementation of these curricular aims.
