Athletics students train for athletics season in Lanzarote

Thirty eight athletics students travelled to Lanzarote during the Easter holidays to train at Club La Santa in preparation for the start of the school's athletics season. Year 8 students Matilda  and Katie report on their experience:

'This year we were selected to go to Lanzarote on the warm weather athletics training camp at Club La Santa. It consists of training sessions throughout the week (most events) with selected students from Years 8, 9 and 10.

Each day we did a two hour training session in the morning and a two hour training session in the evening, when students attempted to get new ‘Personal Bests’ in our specialist events. The weather was really nice, and in our free time we were able to do other activities such as swimming, yoga, football, volleyball, various fitness classes and lots more! It was really yum at lunchtimes because we could buy our own pizza and hang out around the pool in the sun. We were really independent throughout the week and sharing an apartment with our friends was really good fun. By the end of the week we were all much fitter, tanned, happy and excited for the season! We hope to be selected again next year so that we can have another amazing time.'
